At Pisgah, leaving a legacy of faith and commitment to Christ isn’t just something we look forward to. It’s something we’ve already done.
At 175 years old, Pisgah Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches in Arkansas. We are thankful to be a pillar in our community and by the grace of God will continue paving a path of truth and freedom for another 175 years.
Our namesake comes from Mount Pisgah, or the Peak of Pisgah. Mt. Pisgah holds a profound place in the Bible, primarily as the vantage point from which Moses beheld the Promised Land before his death (Deuteronomy 3:27, 34:1−4). This elevated location offered a clear, breathtaking view of the land flowing with milk and honey—a future Moses had led his people toward for 40 years, yet was not permitted to physically enter.
The significance of the Mt. Pisgah region lies in several key concepts:
The View of Promise: It represents the moment of ultimate realization, the view of God's fulfilled promises, even when the final step toward them is beyond our reach. Pictured to the right is the view from Mt. Nebo - the highest point of the Mt. Pisgah region.
A Place of Transition: It marks a crucial point between a long, arduous journey (the wilderness) and a future of blessing (the Promised Land), symbolizing change, hope, and the passing of the torch to a new generation.
Faith and Trust: For Moses, it was a test of faith—to see the goal clearly and trust fully in God's plan, despite personal sacrifice.
Mount Pisgah
At Pisgah Baptist Church, the meaning of Mount Pisgah directly parallels our faith walk today:
Seeing the Vision: Just as Moses saw the Promised Land, we encourage every member to fix their eyes on the ultimate promise of eternal life with Christ and the ongoing work of God's kingdom here on Earth. Pisgah is where we gain clarity and perspective, lifting our eyes above the daily struggles of the "wilderness" to see the glorious hope ahead.
Trusting God's Plan: We recognize that life involves journeys, challenges, and transitions. Our church serves as a place where we learn to trust God's sovereignty completely—believing that even if we don't see the full realization of our hopes immediately, we can stand on our spiritual Pisgah, knowing His promises are true and faithful.
A Community of Hope: We are a body of believers committed to supporting one another as we journey toward our own "promised land." We look to the future with hope and anticipation, celebrating every victory while drawing strength from Scripture to endure every challenge.
